OMYF Distributes $687,000 to Central Florida Community

Orlando, FL – As part of its “Commitment to Community” efforts, the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, will present checks to 25 organizations from eight different counties (Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard, Volusia, Lake, Polk and Sumter) at halftime of the Friday, February 2 game vs. New Jersey Nets (tip-off at 8:00 p.m.). Grants totaling $687,000 will be awarded.

The beneficiaries were recommended by the OMYF “VIP” Committee and then approved by the McCormick Tribune Foundation’s Board of Directors after an extensive five-phase process which began in July of 2006. The funds raised this year were distributed to the community through grants totaling $687,000.

The OMYF is committed to helping every child in Central Florida realize their full potential, especially those most at risk, by supporting programs and partnerships that empower families and change lives.

The OMYF was founded in 1988 and in 1994, became a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. The OMYF is supported through a team effort by Magic players, coaches, staff and the DeVos Family, in partnership with season ticket holders, corporate sponsors, fans and the community. More than $13 million has been granted to local non-profits that support the mission statement.

The 2006 grant recipients: A Gift for Teaching, Anthony House, Beta, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Volusia County, Central Florida PAL, Coalition for the Homeless, Community Health Centers, Community Service Center, Covenant House, Florida Hospital Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Harbor House, Kids House of Seminole, Lake Sumter Children’s Advocacy Center, Lakeside Behavioral Healthcare, LifeStream Behavioral Center, Lighthouse of Central Florida, Mustard Seed, Orlando Ballet, Orlando Regional (Howard Phillips Center), Ronald McDonald House, Space Coast Marine Institute, United Cerebral Palsy.
