Bo Outlaw’s Big Surprise

After arriving at the Downtown Boys and Girls Club from school, club members were surprised with a redecorated club and a visit from Bo Outlaw.
In April, Outlaw was named the 2005-2006 winner of the Rich & Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award. As a result of the award, Rich and Helen DeVos donated $50,000 to the charity of Outlaw’s choice: the Downtown Boys and Girls Club.
Instead of handing them a check, Outlaw decided to surprise the members of the downtown club with new furniture, new computers, and a completely renovated interior.
After taking several boys and girls from the club shopping at Target for necessary items a few weeks prior, Outlaw along with Magic volunteers spent Saturday and Sunday at the club points, moving and assembling new furniture and computers and cleaning up the playground.
The Orlando Magic is committed to the community. Over the last 17 years, more than $13 million has been distributed to local non-profit organizations via the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Annually, Orlando Magic community relations efforts impact 75,000 kids.
Through NBA CARES, the league, players and teams will raise and contribute $100 million for charity, donate more than 1 million hours of hands-on volunteer service to communities worldwide, and build more than 100 places where kids can learn and play over the next five years.
